Modigliani doris krystof5/23/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() The outline of Modigliani’s life is clear enough. It is a real visual treat just slowly flipping through the pictures and soaking them up. The text is eminently readable and it has 88 good quality colour reproductions, not just of paintings and sculptures by the man himself but of works by contemporaries like Picasso, Kirchner and Brancusi, as well as classic nudes by Titian and Giorgione, quoted to compare and contrast with Modigliani’s famous nude paintings. I picked it up for a fiver in some art shop years ago, and dusted it off and reread it to coincide with visiting the big Modigliani exhibition at Tate Modern. They’re all originally written in German, this one was translated into English by Christina Rathgeber. Taschen Publishing specialise in medium-sized art books (23 cm tall x 18.5 cm wide). ![]()

Cruel prince series ashley jade5/22/2023 ![]() You wanted to hate Jace, but you also ached for him. It was funny, yet heartbreaking at the same time. This story was so hard to listen to at times. She did an excellent job! As always, Teddy Hamilton hit it out of the park, too. ![]() I’m also new to Lila Winters as a narrator. This is the first time that I’ve read or listened to anything written by this author and I can see I am very pleased with her work. But overall I did enjoy it, and it kept me coming back for more! So much that I finished it all in two day.įirst time for this author and am well pleased But it is only by one off, so it didn't really bother me all that much. I also wanted to point out that the narrators says different chapters then what is listed in the app. And behaves a bit like them too sometimes. ![]() The whole flashback to when they were 14 is also a bit confusing to me. It all seems to easy (for my taste) Sawyer says it perfect in the ending of the book "If people just talked to each other shit like this wouldn't happen" -or something like that. ![]() And I find it really hard to believe the motives behind it all. I wish there was some more payback from her side, because someone really deserves it (ahem, Jace). ![]() I like the character, and the voice acting is absolutely amazing! The story itself is good too, but Dylan goes through so much shit, and is tormented so much, that it was sometimes really hard to listen to. I will first say that I enjoyed listening to it. ![]()

![]() ![]() If you’re looking for an adventurous fantasy novel, Promises and Pomegranates by Sav R. But there’s another element that separates it from other fantasy novels, and I can best sum it up in one word: camaraderie. ![]() Miller’s Promises and Pomegranates has been billed as an epic fantasy of the fight between good and evil – and it certainly lives up to that lofty claim. I’m definitely looking forward to reading the next books in this promising series! Admittedly, it’s not a book that blew me away right away, but it was an enjoyable read throughout, and the more I reflected on the characters, the more I appreciated how well-written they are (especially Diah). Miller’s Promises and Pomegranates has everything that I look for in an urban fantasy novel, including original mythology, an engaging plot, and well-written characters with distinct voices. It is not fantasy or a literal retelling. Promises and Pomegranates Book Review Summary in English Promises and Pomegranates is a full-length, stand-alone dark contemporary romance inspired by the Hades and Persephone myth. A Force of Nature by Richard Reeves5/22/2023 ![]() I lost count of the number of times we're told how loud his voice was.Ī popular book also needs excitement, and the author tries to generate this by imagining that Rutherford and his contemporaries were engaged in ruthless battles for priority and personal prestige. The result is to paint a distorted picture of Rutherford either as rough country boy from the "frontier" of New Zealand (there is and was no such place, New Zealand is not the Wild West), or a clumsy likeable buffoon, or a tyrannical leader roaring at his juniors. A popular book about science must primarily be entertaining, so this one is bloated with every amusing anecdote the author has come across, often stuffed into the wrong part of the narrative, and invariably distorted by misquotation and the addition of invented details which betray a lack of both scholarly care and understanding of the historical context. Everything is seen through the shallow distorting lens of contemporary American values. After reading widely in all the authoritative sources the author has come away with little understanding of his subject's intellectual life or the society and times he lived in. If you are a fan of Hollywood's superficial distortions of the lives of musicians and mathematicians this book will probably appeal to you. ![]()

Something deeply hidden sean carroll5/21/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Putting his professional reputation on the line with this audacious yet entirely reasonable book, Carroll says that the crisis can now come to an end. Academics discourage students from working on the "dead end" of quantum foundations. Science popularizers keep telling us how weird it is, how impossible it is to understand. ![]() Quantum mechanics has always had obvious gaps-which have come to be simply ignored. Most physicists haven’t even recognized the uncomfortable truth: Physics has been in crisis since 1927. His reconciling of quantum mechanics with Einstein’s theory of relativity changes, well, everything. Already hailed as a masterpiece, Something Deeply Hidden shows for the first time that facing up to the essential puzzle of quantum mechanics utterly transforms how we think about space and time. Sean Carroll, theoretical physicist and one of this world’s most celebrated writers on science, rewrites the history of twentieth-century physics. As you read these words, copies of you are being created. ![]() |
